A History of the Village of New Auburn
and its Surrounding Community

The tiny village of New Auburn, hugging the northwest corner of Chippewa County, Wisconsin, is the second largest community in size of area in the county. Immortalized in the book Population 485: Meeting Your Neighbors One Siren at a Time, our community has progressed from wilderness to logging town to a bedroom community thirty minutes north of Eau Claire and twenty minutes south of Rice Lake.

Learn more about the virgin pine, hemlock, birch and cedar logged from this area. See how the rich fertile forest floor eventually became farmland producing goods shipped out on the rail. Join us for the growth of schools, churches, and recreation as families chose to settle here.
