Transportation and Roads of New Auburn
Roads have been made and remade as early as the Chippewa trail and as recently as the Highway 53. The most famous road in this area is probably the Chippewa Trail. This trail was originally a small path and was made larger for the loggers. Highway 53 was made because the original road, SS “Couldn’t handle the traffic any more especially during the holidays” says Chuck Hanson. Therefore, with so many cars on the road you need gas stations. In New Auburn, at one time there were many gas stations. One being the old building on SS that use to be Bean’s garage, formerly owed by Daminski and Burton. On the southwest corner on Main Street there was the farmer store. That building is now gone.
