Battle of the Books is open to all students in Grades 4-5 and Grade 3 with a teacher recommendation. Students in the BOB program are required to individually read a total of ten books through the course of several months and become “experts” on each of them.
The students meet on a weekly basis to discuss details of the books and are also required to complete a Scholastic Reading Counts quiz for each book and pass with an 70%. This ensures the students are not only reading the books, but comprehending them as well. On the day of the big battle, students work in teams to answer over 200 different questions about the books. Each answer must be given by reciting both the title and author of the book.
