Our district uses the local, regional and state labor market data collected for us from the Great Northwest regional career pathway collaborative. We also use quarterly data provided to us by Northwest Wisconsin Workforce Development which provides comparisons of our local region to the region and state.  

This data is reviewed by our CTE department and Career Readiness team annually to determine our annual goals as part of our continuous improvement plan.

Labor market information suggests that careers in Health Care, Manufacturing, IT and Hospitality are the fastest growing career fields in our area. For this reason the New Auburn School District provides students with the opportunity to participate in Youth Apprenticeships, Work Release and Dual Credit options in these fields. We work with the colleges (technical, two-year, and four-year) to provide Medical Terminology and CNA classes for high school students interested in the medical field, and IT coursework provides students with real world experience on-site. We need to ensure that younger folks are prepared to move into these well-paying positions. 

Students are provided with information and guidance to make informed decisions regarding their educational and career path whether their career goals are leading to an in demand career area or a unique, narrow occupational area. Through the utilization of Xello, career exploration events, self-assessment, and dual credit course-work, the New Auburn School District prepares students for life beyond high school in a variety of ways. 

In our Intro to Careers course, students research career clusters, pathways and post-secondary options and engage in mock interviews during our annual Career Fair.

The New Auburn School District uses multiple resources and strategies to engage families in supporting their child with graduating college and/or career ready. This includes but is not limited to: 

• Senior Awards Banquet: The district hosts a senior awards breakfast, where students are presented with scholarships and awards.

• School Counselor: The school counselor works with students and their families as they prepare for postsecondary opportunities. This includes supporting students as they apply for college, scholarships, and financial aid. 

• Parent Teacher Conferences: The district has fall parent teacher conferences, where families can meet with their child’s teachers on academic progress. During this time, grade level advisors and the guidance counselor are also available to meet with families. 

• Regularly informing families and caregivers about the progress of their student's academic and career planning through assessment results, individual conferencing, and open invitations to ACP events. 

• Course Handbook: As students register for courses for the upcoming year, students and families are provided with a course handbook that includes course descriptions, information about Youth Apprenticeships, opportunities to apply for Start College Now and Early College Credit, and a summary of graduation requirements.  

• Providing multiple ways for families and caregivers to participate in career readiness activities by hosting Academic Night, Career Fairs and Educational Displays. 

• Regularly informing families and caregivers about career readiness activities through our website, emails and social media. 

• Student Handbooks: At the beginning of the year, the student handbook is shared with all families in the district. This includes an overview of the district’s college and career readiness plan. 

Our district works to build relationships with parents as well as our students. Through involvement in academic and career planning, parents are able to connect with the goals and aspirations of their students. 

Our district uses career pathways to help students obtain the academic and career preparation needed for post-secondary education and workforce.  Within these pathways, students are offered the opportunities to take courses that teach the fundamentals of that journey along with providing options for advanced standing, dual credit, industry-recognized credentials, employability skills and work-based learning experiences.  

New Auburn School District offers college-credit courses to qualifying seniors through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Distance Education Network at CESA #10.  Courses are offered through UW-Eau Claire at Barron County, UW-River Falls, and UW-Superior.  In addition, we are able to  offer Distance Education courses through Northwood Technical College,  Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Northcentral Technical College.  Course offerings may change each year based on student interest.

We also offer Work-Based Learning opportunities to Seniors who are in good academic standing and complete the necessary forms.  Interested students meet with the School Counselor to review graduation requirements, eligibility, and Work-Based Learning expectations.  New Auburn also participates in the Youth Apprenticeship program in partnership with Northwest Wisconsin CEP and local businesses for eligible Juniors and Seniors.
